Obituary
Transcription of text

St. Ignace News
January 12, 2012 Edition
Looking Back

80 YEARS AGO The Republican-News Saturday, January 9, 1932

Death, the final destiny of us all, came at last on Tuesday morning at 5:15 a. m., to release Mrs. L. P Walker from her suffering and to usher into that world where pain is no more. All surrounding her had realized that after her return from Rochester, Minn., the visit of death’s angel was only the question probably of days.

Ula Fay Whiteside was 41 years of age, a daughter of Charles M. and Melissa Whiteside, and was born December 8, 1890.

The family came to St. Ignace in 1902, when Mr. Whiteside assumed the duties of superintendent of a large tract of hardwood land owned by the Wisconsin Chair Co., that was sold afterwards to the Sallon & Hesson interests and finally was lumbered off by the Embury-Martin concern of Cheboygan. Then Mr. Whiteside engaged in surveying, real estate business, and finally prepared a complete title abstract for the county.

Fay Whiteside was raised here. She completed her education with a business course at the Ursuline academy; then she entered the employ of Chambers Bros. as a saleslady in their store. She retained that position till her marriage.

In November, 1916, she was married to Louis P. Walker, furniture dealer and undertaker of St. Ignace. She leaves four motherless children, Howard Whiteside Walker, 14; Genevra Walker, 12; Shirley Walker, 7; and Louis W. Walker, 3.
Obituary
